Description

Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is an essential water-soluble vitamin vital for collagen production, supporting connective tissues in the body such as organs, bones, ligaments, and skin. It typically appears as a white to slightly yellow powdered substance, which may darken upon exposure to air and light. While moderately stable when dry, it oxidizes quickly in solution and readily dissolves in water.

Indications:

  • Treatment and prevention of Vitamin C deficiency
  • Reduction of melanin production, addressing issues like black spots
  • Diminishment of wrinkles and fine lines by promoting collagen synthesis, enhancing skin elasticity and firmness
  • Minimization of pores, acne, and blemishes, leading to smoother skin
  • Boosting the immune system, particularly with higher doses
  • Utilization in certain medical conditions with elevated Vitamin C needs, such as atrophic illnesses, pregnancy, lactation, athletic activities, and post-operative recovery

Medical Applications:

  • Formation of bone matrix in fractures
  • Treatment of light-sensitive dermatitis
  • Management of internal hemorrhage due to capillary fragility
  • Addressing Vitamin X deficiency resulting from administration
  • Correction of facial discoloration and freckles
  • Stabilization of pigment after inflammation

Administration and Dosage:

  • Primarily administered orally; parenteral delivery may be necessary in cases of malabsorption or impractical oral intake
  • Intramuscular (IM) injection is the preferred parenteral route for effective utilization
  • Protective daily doses for adults range between 70 to 150 mg; higher doses of 300 mg to 1 gram are recommended for scurvy treatment
  • Pre- and post-operative doses of 300 to 500 mg daily for wound healing improvement
  • Higher doses may be necessary depending on the severity of tissue damage, such as in burn injuries
  • Storage recommendation: Store in a light-resistant and airtight container at temperatures between 2°C to 8°C….
